ARI JOSHUA – SCARED OF ERIC: CELEBRATING A LEGEND THROUGH SOUND

0

Releasing September 26, 2025 via Music Factory Records

When four fearless musicians enter the studio with nothing but groove, heart, and mutual respect, magic tends to follow. That’s exactly what happened on Scared of Eric, a bold instrumental release by Ari Joshua, Skerik, Delvon Lamarr, and Grant Schroff—out this fall through Music Factory Records.

The single is a lively, genre-blurring tribute to saxophone pioneer Skerik, whose unique approach to improvisation and tone has made him one of the most innovative players in modern music. Known for his work with Critters Buggin, Garage A Trois, and Les Claypool’s Fancy Band, Skerik has built a reputation for tearing down musical boundaries and reinventing what jazz and funk can sound like.

For guitarist and composer Ari Joshua, this track holds deep personal meaning. He recalls seeing Skerik perform when he was just thirteen years old—a moment that would shape his entire musical journey. “There was this raw power and honesty in his playing,” Joshua says. “Writing a song for him, and then hearing him perform on it, feels like the circle has come full.”

ARI JOSHUA

Musically, Scared of Eric is a psychedelic boogaloo-funk fusion filled with deep grooves, textured harmonies, and spontaneous interplay between four players who clearly trust each other. Delvon Lamarr’s soulful organ work and Grant Schroff’s tight yet unpredictable drumming lay the foundation for Joshua’s expressive guitar and Skerik’s explosive sax lines to dance freely.

The track was captured live by Mell Dettmer at Studio Soli, mixed by Jason Gray at Blue Mallard Recording, and mastered by Doug Krebs, giving the final product both warmth and clarity. The cover artwork by Chris Ball (Deepgroove Designs) mirrors the wild, colorful energy within the music itself.

ARI JOSHUA

Scared of Eric isn’t just a tribute—it’s a reminder of how influence becomes legacy. It celebrates one of jazz’s great visionaries while shining a light on a new generation of boundary-pushing artists who continue to expand what instrumental music can be.

When you speak of dance revolutions that changed the streets and stages forever, one name that can’t be left out is Kid Pat, the creator and founder of The “Lite Feet Dance”, and the “Lite Feet Culture”. Known today as a movement that has transcended from New York sidewalks to worldwide stages with music moguls such as Diddy, Lil Wayne, Trey Songz, Lil Kim and more. Lite Feet began with the raw talent and passion of a young boy named “Kid Pat”, who hit the scene at just 12 years old.

Kid Pat

SKG: “Cardi B Just Dropped the Best Album of the Year”

0

West Coast rapper and music industry entrepreneur SKG (Helecia Choyce) is showing strong support for Cardi B’s newly released sophomore album, Am I the Drama, calling it “one of the best albums of the year” and revealing it’s the first album she’s personally purchased in years.

Cardi B’s return to music has been met with widespread attention and acclaim. In the midst of ongoing public scrutiny, including legal challenges, a high-profile divorce, and a pregnancy. Cardi has managed to keep her focus on the music, delivering an album that has reignited conversations around female artistry in hip-hop.

SKG, who has built a respected career both as an artist and behind the scenes in the music business, praised Cardi B’s resilience and the quality of her latest project.

“Cardi had a lot working against her, and many people didn’t expect her to come back this strong,” said SKG. “But she came back swinging and landed right on top. I listened to Am I the Drama from start to finish, it’s a no-skip album. She really opened the door again for female rappers of all ages, and I’m proud of her for proving so many people wrong.”

The veteran rapper also acknowledged the impact of the album’s marketing and rollout, noting it was a key factor in her decision to purchase the record.

“I honestly can’t remember the last time I bought an album,” SKG added. “But the way she rolled this out, I had to support it.” Am I the Drama marks Cardi B’s second studio album and further cements her place as one of the most influential voices in modern hip-hop.

Sarah Herrera Named Artist of the Year as She Redefines Punk with Raw Authenticity

0

In an artistic landscape that often rewards conformity and sanitized commercial sounds, Sarah Herrera has emerged as a beacon of raw, unfiltered creativity. Her rise to prominence over the last year has been nothing short of meteoric, driven not by a polished marketing machine, but by the fierce authenticity of her art. From the gritty, sweat-soaked clubs of New York City, Herrera’s unique blend of heartfelt lyricism and defiant punk energy has captivated critics and fans alike, establishing her as a vital and unconventional voice in the underground scene. Her story is not just one of a musician, but of a multi-talented artist whose work spans across different mediums, all united by a singular, powerful vision.

The culmination of her remarkable journey has been a cascade of accolades, a testament to her widespread impact. The February 2025 release of her album, “There May Have Been Others,” cemented her status as a force to be reckoned with. While it took a respectable third-place spot for Best Album at the Punk Express Annual Awards in Los Angeles this week, its impact on the punk rock community was arguably more significant than its official ranking. The album is a testament to Herrera’s versatility, showcasing her ability to transition seamlessly between frenetic ska-punk anthems that invite furious moshing and deeply personal songs that bring an audience to a hushed standstill. The album itself feels like a complete narrative, a sonic journey through her triumphs and tribulations, and its recognition highlights a critical shift in the genre towards more complex and emotionally resonant long-form works.

Yet, Herrera’s genius extends far beyond the confines of music. It was a year of accolades that started with recognition in New York for her literary work. In July, the New York Writer’s Guild recognized her as a formidable new voice, awarding her second place for Best Non-Fiction for “Taking It Too Far.” This was followed by a fourth-place finish for Best New Author. These early awards highlight a talent that extends far beyond music. Her ability to craft complex, emotionally resonant narratives in prose sets her apart from her contemporaries. This dual identity—as both a musician and an author—is a rare and captivating combination. A month prior, in June, her literary talents were also recognized by the New York City Poetry Society, which awarded her the 2025 New Poet Award (second place) and, more impressively, a first-place finish for her freeform poem “The Ungodly Document.” These honors paint a portrait of an artist who is not only a gifted songwriter but a master of language, able to convey raw emotion and intricate stories through various forms of expression.

When it comes to her live performances, Sarah Herrera’s true power is undeniable. Her energetic and deeply moving stage presence earned her the Underground Music Awards for Best Performance by a Solo Artist in New York City in August. It’s a performance style that feels both intimate and explosive, a cathartic release that connects with audiences on a profound, almost spiritual level. She doesn’t just play songs; she embodies them, pouring every ounce of herself into the moment. This connection is most evident in her songwriting, particularly with her hit track, “I Guess That’s What It All Came Back To, Didn’t It?”, which became a dual winner, securing the coveted Best Song award at both the Underground Music Awards and the Punk Express Annual Awards in August. This song, with its searing honesty and cathartic chorus, has become an anthem for a generation grappling with uncertainty and regret, a beacon of hope in a world that often feels broken.

While “I Guess That’s What It All Came Back To, Didn’t It?” may have been her most prominent hit, Herrera’s catalogue is full of gems that have garnered their own praise. The track “Song For My Niece” was recognized by PunkNews Today in July as the third Best Song of 2025 in the ska-punk category, a testament to her lyrical depth and her commitment to blending the personal with the political. That same month, she tied for first place for Best Vocal Performance by the New York Underground Scene for her haunting and evocative track “A Collect Call From Nowhere.” This recognition is a clear indicator of her vocal range and her ability to deliver a performance that is both technically skilled and emotionally charged. The ability to shift from the aggressive, fast-paced rhythms of ska-punk to the stripped-down, raw emotion of a ballad is a rare talent, and her vocal performance on this track shows a vulnerability that few artists in the genre are willing to expose.

Sarah Herrera

The year was truly capped by her being named Artist of the Year in the ska-punk category (first place) by PunkNews Today and Best New Solo Artist (first place) by the Punk Express Annual Awards. These awards are more than just trophies; they are a declaration from the punk community that Herrera represents its future. They signify that her uncompromised artistic vision is not just respected, but celebrated. She has carved out a niche that is uniquely her own, demonstrating that punk can be a vehicle for both furious rebellion and profound introspection.

Looking ahead, the future is incredibly bright for Sarah Herrera. With a string of high-profile awards and a growing legion of dedicated fans, she is poised to continue her remarkable ascent. More than just a musician, she is a poet, a writer, and, above all, a singular voice of the underground. Her journey is a powerful reminder that true art lies not in following trends, but in forging your own path, and that authenticity will always resonate more deeply than any manufactured sound.

Ariana Grande Sends ‘Wicked’-Themed Care Package to Young Cancer Patient: ‘I Hope This Brings You Joy’ — a gesture that’s melting hearts around the world. The pop superstar recently brought a huge smile to the face of 9-year-old Brie, who is courageously fighting cancer, by sending her a thoughtful gift filled with Wicked merchandise and R.E.M. Beauty products.

Brie shared her excitement in a touching Instagram video posted on Wednesday (Aug. 6). “Today’s package is the best one yet — it’s from my favorite person in the whole wide world, Ariana Grande,” she said, beaming with joy.

Inside the box, Brie discovered perfume, makeup items, and adorable Wicked plush toys. She couldn’t contain her happiness, especially over the Squishmallows. “Thank you so, so much, Ariana Grande,” Brie exclaimed. “I love everything in the package, especially the Squishmallows!”

Grande also sent a personal video message to Brie, revealing that she shared the same favorite item. “Hi, Brie! It’s Ariana,” she began warmly. “A little birdie — your mom — told me you’re a fan of Wicked and Glinda, so I put together this little care package for you. My personal favorite part is the Squishmallows.”

The Grammy winner added heartfelt words: “I hope it makes you smile. I’ve seen your videos, and I think you are the most amazing and inspiring little light beam in this universe. You’re just so incredible. Thank you for being you. Sending you so much love and many, many virtual hugs.”

Brie, who has stage four neuroblastoma, has been sharing her journey on social media with the help of her mom, Kendra. Just days before the gift arrived, Brie expressed her admiration for the Wicked star in another Instagram video. Kendra revealed in the caption that Ariana’s mother, Joan Grande, had called to say Ariana had seen Brielle’s story and wanted to send her something special.

“She has such a beautiful heart,” Kendra wrote about the singer. “Brielle was in shock! @arianagrande, Brielle thinks you are SO pretty and extremely talented. Thank you for taking the time to send her a package — she is absolutely thrilled.”

This sweet moment comes just months before the highly anticipated premiere of Wicked: For Good, hitting theaters in November. The film follows the success of the first Wicked movie, which earned two Oscars, a No. 2 spot on the Billboard 200 soundtrack chart, and over $755 million worldwide — the highest-grossing Broadway musical adaptation ever.

Meanwhile, Grande is also celebrating the success of Eternal Sunshine Deluxe: Brighter Days Ahead, the expanded edition of her 2024 chart-topping album Eternal Sunshine, with all five new tracks debuting on the Billboard Hot 100.

Eddie Murphy Reveals Untold Story of Beyoncé’s Kind Gesture Toward Jennifer Hudson on the ‘Dreamgirls’ Set

0

Over his legendary 50-year career, Eddie Murphy has crossed paths with some of the most iconic figures in entertainment — from Richard Pryor and Michael Jackson to Prince and Frank Sinatra — and has shared plenty of unforgettable stories about them.

But now, Murphy has finally shared one tale that had remained under wraps for nearly two decades — a touching behind-the-scenes moment involving Beyoncé during the filming of the 2006 movie adaptation of the Broadway classic Dreamgirls. Speaking on Complex’s 360 With Speedy podcast, Murphy reflected on the time in 2005 when he was filming the musical while going through a divorce from Nicole Murphy after 12 years of marriage.

“I was kind of on automatic pilot, and I don’t remember a lot about making the movie,” he admitted. The film — released in December 2006 — starred Jamie Foxx as a music executive modeled after Berry Gordy Jr., Beyoncé as Deena Jones (inspired by Diana Ross), and Murphy himself as James “Thunder” Early, a James Brown–like soul singer. His performance earned him his first and only Oscar nomination for Best Supporting Actor.

While filming, Murphy witnessed a sweet exchange that neither Beyoncé nor co-star Jennifer Hudson — who would go on to win an Oscar for Best Supporting Actress in her debut film role — likely remembers. “I watched Jennifer Hudson and Beyoncé between shots. Jennifer was new to the business, and I noticed she had a little ash on her finger. She was licking her finger and rubbing it to get rid of it,” Murphy recalled, miming the gesture.

Eddie Murphy Reveals Untold Story of Beyoncé’s Kind Gesture Toward Jennifer Hudson on the ‘Dreamgirls’ Set

That’s when Beyoncé quietly stepped in. “Beyoncé grabbed Jennifer and said, ‘Oh girl, don’t do that. I’ll get you some cream,’” Murphy said with a smile. “It was just between the two of them, but I saw it.”

The moment, though small, stuck with Murphy all these years — a subtle but telling example of kindness and support between artists at very different stages of their careers.

Murphy is currently on a press tour for Amazon MGM Studios’ casino heist comedy The Pickup, starring alongside Pete Davidson, Eva Longoria, and Keke Palmer. But his newly shared story — Eddie Murphy Reveals Untold Story of Beyoncé’s Kind Gesture Toward Jennifer Hudson on the ‘Dreamgirls’ Set — is now making headlines for all the right reasons.

See Gracie Abrams Perform a Taylor Swift Song She Says She’ll ‘Always Wish’ She Had Written

0

Gracie Abrams may have been the headliner at her Los Angeles concert on Thursday night (Aug. 7), but one of the evening’s most magical moments came when she performed a song that wasn’t her own—yet still had the crowd singing every single word.

During the B-stage portion of her Secret of Us Tour stop at the Kia Forum, Abrams surprised fans with a heartfelt cover of Taylor Swift’s All Too Well (10 Minute Version). Before launching into the performance, she paused to share a touching message about her close friend and former tourmate. “I was talking to her earlier today,” Abrams said, referring to the pop icon.

“It’s not lost on me that so many of us know each other because I met many of you through doing the Eras Tour with Taylor,” she continued. “I feel like I’m forever missing what that experience was. I know we all feel that way. Tonight, I want to sing a song for you that I’ll always wish I wrote—if you’ve got 10 minutes.”

The California-born singer then poured her heart into the song, accompanying herself on a small red keyboard in the center of the arena. The audience scream-sang every emotional line—nostalgic verses, fiery bridge, and aching outro—turning the arena into a sea of shared emotion. “Maybe we got lost in translation, maybe I asked for too much / But maybe this thing was a masterpiece ’til you tore it all up,” Abrams sang, her voice blending with thousands of voices in the crowd.

See Gracie Abrams Perform a Taylor Swift Song She Says She’ll ‘Always Wish’ She Had Written

This special moment came nearly eight months after Swift wrapped her record-breaking Eras Tour in December, where Abrams served as the opener for the final North American leg and also joined for select shows when the tour kicked off in 2023. Their time on the road forged a close friendship, which eventually led to their collaboration “Us” on Abrams’ breakout album The Secret of Us.

In her April Billboard cover story, Abrams reflected on how much she’s learned from Swift, particularly about staying grounded amid fame. “It’s like, I really don’t have it that bad in terms of invasion of privacy,” she said. “I feel lucky to have observed how extreme it can be for her—it really helps me put my own stuff into perspective.”

Now nearing the end of her headlining tour, Abrams has just five shows left before the Secret of Us trek concludes on Aug. 27 in Mexico City.

Ice Cube Claims Donald Trump’s ICE Raids in L.A. Aim to ‘Traumatize’ Residents: ‘Nobody’s Safe, Man’ Do you like this personality?

0

Ice Cube Claims Donald Trump’s ICE Raids in L.A. Aim to ‘Traumatize’ Residents: ‘Nobody’s Safe, Man’ Do you like this personality? The rapper and actor is standing firmly with immigrant families affected by recent Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) operations in his hometown of Los Angeles.

During an interview on REAL 92.3 LA’s The Cruz Show, posted Thursday (Aug. 7), Ice Cube voiced his frustration with what he described as the federal government’s “heavy-handed” approach toward immigrant communities. He expressed solidarity with the wider Latino population, many of whom are living in fear as a result of these aggressive tactics.

“It hurts, because there’s so many different situations going on with immigration,” he said. “To see people disrespected like that, and the federal government just being too heavy-handed—going to churches, weddings, even schools to grab people—it’s like, ‘Come on, man, y’all are overdoing it.’”

“Nobody’s Safe”

Ice Cube believes the purpose of these raids goes beyond deportation. He suggested that the real goal is to instill fear across all Latinx communities in the U.S., regardless of citizenship status.

“Nobody’s safe, man,” he stated. “They don’t care who they grab. It’s sad. They come in and disrespect everybody. They want to traumatize people, too.”

He added, “It’s just sad, man. I can’t wait ’til this period is over. I don’t know how we’re going to get there, but it’s crazy to see people dragged out of their places of refuge.”

Protests and Escalating Tensions in L.A.

The interview comes amid heightened tensions in Los Angeles, sparked in June by protests against President Donald Trump’s mass deportation policies. The unrest intensified when the National Guard was deployed to assist in ICE raids across the city.

Ice Cube Claims Donald Trump’s ICE Raids in L.A. Aim to ‘Traumatize’ Residents

Ice Cube joins a growing list of celebrities—including Tyler, The Creator, Olivia Rodrigo, Billie Joe Armstrong, and Kehlani—who have spoken out against the sweeps in recent months.

Raids Continue Despite Court Ruling

Although a federal appeals court recently upheld a judge’s order blocking the Trump administration from conducting indiscriminate immigration arrests in the city, U.S. Border Patrol agents have continued their operations.

Just one day before Cube’s interview, agents reportedly jumped out of a rented truck and arrested individuals at a Home Depot in Los Angeles. Officials dubbed the mission “Operation Trojan Horse,” according to the Associated Press.

Damon Albarn, PinkPantheress, and Others to Perform at Brian Eno’s Together for Palestinian Relief Concert

0

Music will take center stage in London this September as a powerful act of solidarity and humanitarian support. Damon Albarn, PinkPantheress, and Others to Perform at Brian Eno’s Together for Palestinian Relief Concert, joining an extraordinary lineup of artists at the OVO Arena Wembley on September 17.

The event, spearheaded by legendary British musician and composer Brian Eno, aims to raise funds for the charity Choose Love, with proceeds going to Palestinian-led organizations delivering vital humanitarian aid. Tickets are currently on sale via My Ticket.

A Star-Studded Lineup for a Cause

Alongside Damon Albarn, PinkPantheress, and Jamie xx, the night will feature performances from Bastille, Cat Burns, Greentea Peng, Hot Chip, James Blake, King Krule, Mabel, Obongjayar, Paloma Faith, Rachel Chinouriri, and Sampha. Palestinian artists including Adnan Joubran, Faraj Suleiman, and Nai Barghouti will also take the stage. Rina Sawayama and Riz Ahmed are set to make appearances, with more names to be announced soon.

Eno’s Vision and Message

Serving as executive producer, Eno will work with production managers Khaled Ziada, Khalid Abdalla, and Tracey Seaward. In a statement, Eno stressed the urgency of speaking out:

“In the face of the horrors of Gaza, silence becomes complicity. Artists have always helped societies point out injustice and imagine better futures. That’s why this concert matters. It’s time for us to come together – not just to raise our voices, but to reaffirm our shared humanity.”

Ziada echoed the sentiment, describing the event as “a chorus of resistance” in a world where “governments and mainstream media have fallen silent in the face of genocide.”

Why Together for Palestine Matters

Announcing the concert on July 31, Eno shared a heartfelt message on Instagram, making clear that this was not an ambiguous issue:

“When dozens of non-partisan organisations like Amnesty International and Doctors Without Borders describe it as genocide, the moral line is clear. We can’t remain silent. This night is about music, reflection, and hope.”

Damon Albarn, PinkPantheress, and Others to Perform at Brian Eno’s Together for Palestinian Relief Concert

He emphasized that the evening would be an opportunity for artists to “speak the truth in their hearts,” whether live on stage or via video from around the world.

The Larger Context

The ongoing conflict was triggered by the October 7, 2023, Hamas attacks that killed more than 1,200 Israeli civilians and saw over 250 hostages taken. In response, Israel’s military campaign has, according to Gaza’s Health Ministry, resulted in the deaths of over 60,000 Palestinians. The World Health Organization recently warned of alarming malnutrition rates among children and civilians in Gaza.

In July, Eno and fellow musicians—including Fontaines D.C., Kneecap, and Massive Attack—formed a syndicate to protect artists speaking out against Israel’s military actions. They aim to shield especially emerging artists from being “threatened into silence” or facing career repercussions from advocacy groups such as UK Lawyers for Israel (UKLFI).

This concert at Wembley promises to be more than just a musical event—it is a statement of compassion, unity, and resilience in the face of injustice.
