In a “4×4” music video, Miley Cyrus claims that Madonna “was down” to mud wrestle, but her label rejected the idea.

In a different reality, a crazy music video with Madonna, Nelly, and other celebrities doing wheelies and fighting in the mud would have completed Miley Cyrus’ legendary Bangerz era. Sadly, that is not the universe in which we live.

The “Flowers” singer stated in an interview on the Every Single Album podcast, which was broadcast Thursday, June 5, that she had been determined to get a star-studded group of pals together to film a wild music video for the song “4×4” from her 2013 smash hit album, which never became a single. Cyrus remarked, “I had everyone lined up already.” “Nelly… Miranda Cosgrove, Madonna was willing to do the video.

She added, chuckling, “This was before Taylor Swift had a lot of famous people in her crew.” “I initially had friends who were well-known. That’s what I wanted to do. My squad was really, really awesome, and I had a f–king squad.

She joked that RCA, her label at the time, blocked the idea because they didn’t want her “talking about a pit bull [and] piss” in a song they were pushing. Madonna and Miranda Kerr were mud wrestlers, the Grammy winner recalled nostalgically. “I thought, ‘I’m going to get all these girls, all these supermodels, all these Victoria’s Secret models, and all these pop icons to come to my dad’s farm, get in the back of 4x4s, and we’re going to do doughnuts and mud wrestling.'”

Even without a “4×4” video, Cyrus’s “Bangerz” album is still one of his best-selling ones to date. Her first-ever No. 1 song on the Billboard Hot 100, “Wrecking Ball,” followed quickly by “We Can’t Stop” at No. 2, was the result of the album, which debuted at the top of the Billboard 200.

After signing with RCA for a three-album run, the “Party in the U.S.A.” singer released Younger Now in 2017 and Plastic Hearts in 2020 on the Sony Music label. She signed a new contract with Columbia Records in 2021, and on May 30th, her new album, Something Beautiful, was published.

Cyrus mentioned another instance in which she and her previous label weren’t quite in agreement later in the podcast episode. She claims that she never would have included a particular pop celebrity on the tune “Prisoner,” which is from Plastic Hearts. Cyrus stated bluntly, “I don’t mean to disparage Dua Lipa, but it just doesn’t fit with the album.”

In a "4×4" music video, Miley Cyrus claims that Madonna "was down" to mud wrestle, but her label rejected the idea.

The singer went on to say of Dua Lipa, “She would have been much better on something like [2023 LP] Endless Summer Vacation.” “You can imagine how amazing she would have been on ‘River,’ but she would have been fantastic on ‘Wildcard,’ too.”

In order to give the LP some commercial energy, Cyrus explained, her team from RCA brought in some “medicinal Dua” because they weren’t totally sure how Plastic Hearts would fare. “They essentially said, ‘Oh, great, let’s spray a little Dua Lipa on this piece of s–t album she gave us,'” Cyrus said.

Friday Dance Music Guide: Chris Lake, Purity Ring, and Other Artists’ Top New Songs of the Week

0

This week’s dance music featured Deadmau5 and Rezz discussing their long-running collaborative effort, Rezzmau5, on the Billboard Canada cover. Speaking about selling his collection to Create Music Group earlier this year, deadmau5 stated in the piece that “it was time to just let it go.”

Following a public controversy about the font size of her billing, Italian techno producer Deborah de Luca withdrew from the HARD Summer 2025 roster. The artist expressed her regret to the audience, saying, “I’m extremely sorry, people! However, they made my name less prominent than others, which was disrespectful to my profession. Ladies of Leisure, an electronic quartet, took the producer’s position on the lineup.

Damian Lazarus also revealed this week that in January 2026, he will launch his Day Zero party on a beach in northern Brazil. That same month, the event will return to its long-standing location in Tulum. We talked with two members of Gesaffelstein’s team about how they and the French producer developed his current live act and why pop artists like Lady Gaga and Charli xcx have grown to rely on him as a collaborator.

According to Alexandra Pilz-Hayot, his longtime manager, “he has a very strong sense of melody and pop.” “You hear it in both the Gaga and Charli songs, particularly in the song ‘Killah.'” It’s the meeting of two musicians who have a deep musical understanding of one another. It has been the most straightforward partnership.

Reservoir Media, meanwhile, said that it has partnered strategically with Fool’s Gold Records, incorporating the independent label that A-Trak co-founded into its catalog of recorded music. Madonna, who stated that “I was going through a huge metamorphosis at the time the album was released,” revealed that a compilation of rare and unreleased remixes of her 1998 electronic masterwork Ray of Light will be available on July 25. I had discovered my spiritual path, had recently given birth to my daughter Lola, and was prepared to shed my skin and choose a less-traveled route.

Additionally, Lady Gaga praised disco star Carl Bean’s 1977 classic “I Was Born This Way” in a new documentary, Disclosure announced an autumn run of live gigs, and Tiësto and Sexyy Redd shared a new collaboration from the upcoming F1 The Movie soundtrack.

These are the week’s top new dance songs to complete the picture.

Ring of Purity, “many lives”

With “many lives” and the single’s B-side “part ii,” electronic pop duo Purity Ring releases their first new song since 2023. “Many lives” actually refers to the passing of time, as Megan James of Purity Ring sings, “You know I’ve lived many lives, many lives, many times,” in a crystal-clear voice that floats over a production that combines cinematic synths of drum & bass-style drums.

Chris Lake, Purity Ring, and Other Artists' Top New Songs of the Week

The two declare in a joint statement that “in many ways, many lives + pt ii is the epicenter of things we’ve been working on recently.” It is comparable to the sun that we have been around for the past several years. It has everything we can imagine in it, yet it also feels completely dark and unattainable. At this stage of our careers, we are simply ecstatic about creating music, and while creating this, we felt a sense of expansion and opportunity.

Creative director Mike Sunday created the accompanying film for the self-released project, which showcases the pair’s influences, which include Final Fantasy X and Automata.

Rising Ohio hip-hop collective The Council 2432 is making waves on the national stage. In a recent sit-down interview with DJ Scenario at the iHeartRadio Studios in New York City, the newly formed Ohio-based group discussed their debut LP, A Dose of Reality, released under Dominion Hill Records.

The group used the opportunity to speak on a number of key milestones, including their performance at a major 420 cannabis celebration in Ohio, which drew over 5,000 fans. DJ Scenario also premiered the exclusive full-length interview on Power 105.1 FM, helping introduce The Council 2432 to a wider national audience.

“For me, it’s all about getting the artist in front of as many people as possible,” says Billy Blaize, CEO of 2432 Entertainment and manager of The Council. “Whether it’s through radio, podcasts, or live performances—just letting people hear the music. We’re grateful for the position we’re in and the platforms we’ve been given.”

The 420 festival, which spanned three days in Eastern Ohio, was a massive success. Hosted by Billy Blaize, the event featured headlining performances by The Council 2432 artists Mall Black, Jag Da Apostle, Matthew Cooper, Zach Wright, and Manny Divine. The group closed out the event with their powerful lead single, Unstoppable, leaving a lasting impression on thousands of attendees.

Since the release of A Dose of Reality in April, The Council 2432 has continued to build momentum. The group was recently invited to perform Unstoppable at the “I Got Bars” showcase in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, sharing the stage with industry heavyweights Cassidy and Harlem battle rap legend Charlie Clips.

“When you trust somebody with your life, it’s easy to trust them with your money,” in response to DJ Scenario’s question about the group’s dynamic and their relationship with founder Billy Blaize.

Looking ahead, fans can expect the official music video for Unstoppable—directed and produced by the group’s in-house creative team—to be released in May 2025.

Stay tuned and keep your ears to the streets—The Council 2432 is just getting started.

MaxWidBandz: The Genre-Bender Born of Fire and Fortune

0

If the Grammys had a category for “Most Determined Spirit in Hip-Hop,” MaxWidBandz would already have a shelf full. His new single “This Shit,” produced by Adan Bladh TKB, feels less like a debut and more like a revelation. Blending East-European intensity with Southern resilience, the track is both cinematic and streetwise — a rare achievement in modern rap.

Max’s transcontinental backstory bleeds into every bar. Raised between Russian resolve and American hustle, his style speaks a language of survival, glory, and self-definition. “This Shit” is gritty and graceful, a masterclass in controlled aggression.

And fashion? He’s got that, too. His label IMUSTBEHIGHAGAIN doesn’t just sell clothes — it sells the feeling of elevation. Streetwear that inspires while it intimidates.

Allen Green and Ramaj Eroc Bring Back Future Nostalgia on “She Gimme That”

0

In an era where throwback aesthetics are often reduced to filters and fonts, LA producer Allen Green cuts through the noise with something deeper: a true reverence for the soul of hip-hop. On She Gimme That , Green invites Chicago rapper Ramaj Eroc to lace his hazy, analog textures with razor-sharp verses, marking Green’s first official vocal collaboration, and one that lands with intention.

Green, known for beats that drift through the crates of dusty soul and ‘90s rhythm, flips his usual instrumental minimalism into something seductively maximal. The track oozes with nostalgic soul while Ramaj flows with ease over the music. There’s a crispness in the low-end, a modern sheen in the arrangement, that firmly roots this release in 2025.

Previously known for steadily moving records across Bandcamp and soundtracking viral clips from cult LA eateries, Green’s signing to Sungate Records hinted at bigger moves. She Gimme That confirms it. This is a pivot, a step into a broader lane where Green’s textured world opens up to new voices.

In a time where hip-hop is increasingly digital, Green reminds us what warmth sounds like.

Harvest Runes Reaches for the Cosmos on New Age Oblivion

0

James Anthony Wolff isn’t your typical frontman. He’s not chasing pop charts or TikTok virality. He’s crafting symphonic indie-rock epics with a small orchestra, pulling from forgotten band sessions and reshaping them into soundscapes that feel more like film scores than singles. His latest release under the Harvest Runes moniker, New Age Oblivion, is a bold and beautiful resurrection of a once-lost chapter in his career and it’s unlike anything else in the indie world right now.

This is a time capsule. The songs were originally rehearsed and performed in D.C. and Wolff dug up the recordings, remixed, re-edited, and reimagined them, and turned the fragments into something remarkably whole. “Raise the Sails” channels Arcade Fire-style catharsis, but through the lens of chamber pop, complete with horns. Then there’s “Lakeview,” a slow-burning anthem for anyone who’s ever tried to outrun their own past.

The standout, though, might be “Invisible Forces,” a bruising track that lays out the album’s thesis: we are more than the parts they try to reduce us to. Mechanical love, cosmic strings, desert wanderings, this is music that wants to go big or not go at all.

Wolff deserves credit not just for his songwriting chops, but for his resilience. This record was almost lost to time, buried under the weight of broken bands and forgotten sessions. But somehow, New Age Oblivion came back from the dead, and it might just be the most vital thing he’s made yet.

Frankie Parker’s Triumph: “BREATHE” Chronicles Her Breast Cancer Journey, with Chart-Topping Hit “RITA”

0

Soul-stirring, unconventional, and powerful—Frankie Parker is an artist who refuses to be confined by expectations. The celebrated singer, songwriter, and bandleader has once again captivated audiences with her latest album, BREATHE, a deeply personal project that chronicles her courageous battle with breast cancer.

Recorded during her chemotherapy and radiation treatments, BREATHE is more than just an album, it’s a testament to resilience, strength, and the healing power of music. Officially released in September 2024, the project has already made waves in the industry, proving that Parker’s voice is as unstoppable as her spirit.

One of the album’s standout tracks, “RITA”, an homage to the legendary Rita Marley, soared to the #1 spot on the UK charts in February 2025, the same month its music video was shot in Chicago. The video was directed by Grammy Award winning music producer Marshall Knights and co-directed by Erin Sedalia and Dwayne Surney.

Frankie Parker’s electrifying stage presence has made her one of the most sought-after artists in Chicagoland. From The House of Blues to the Grand Ole Opry and the United Center, she has graced some of the country’s most iconic stages. Alongside her band, The Gentlemen, she has maintained an impressive nine-year residency at The Bassment, one of Chicago’s premier live music venues in the West Loop. It must be noted that Ms. Parker is also affiliated with Chicago based record label Soulistic 360, headed by Arnell Newman.

Beyond the stage, Parker is a dedicated mentor, working with The Rhythms Project, a non-profit organization focused on nurturing young creatives in songwriting and vocal performance. Her influence extends beyond music, as she was recently featured in “Artists of the World: Indie”, a photography book celebrating groundbreaking independent artists.

With BREATHE, Frankie Parker has turned pain into power, crafting an album that resonates with warriors like herself. Her journey is far from over—it’s only the beginning of an era where her music continues to uplift, inspire, and break boundaries.
