DJ Wreckless

Where are you from?
I’m from Paterson, NJ, born and raised.

When did you start making music – and what or who were your early influences?
I started DJing when I was 14. Met Fetty Wap when I was 18. Started producing and engineering a year later when I turned 19. When I was younger I was highly influenced by Eminem, 50 Cent, Dipset, Jadakiss and D-BLock. Then as I got older I became influenced by J. Cole, Kanye West, Drake, Jay-Z.

What skills do you think artists need to be successful?
I wouldn’t call it skill. I’d say the number 1 thing an artist should have to become successful is simply passion. With passion comes drive, ambition, hunger to be the best at what you simple love to do

How do you stay up to date with the latest music trends?
Well being a DJ there’s tons of sites that curate a playlist for you and let you know what’s hot and what’s new. You also have TikTok and Instagram as well to help keep you in the loop.

When performing, what techniques do you use to engage the audience?
Knowing how to properly read the crowd. Noticing what excites them, what doesn’t. Having a ton of energy as it can be contagious. Just simply being yourself.

What would you say is the most rewarding part of being an artist?
Having people look up to you and thrive off of things you are doing. To be able to inspire and motivate others into following their dreams.

How did you spend your lockdown/pandemic time? What did you accomplish before the entertainment world began to open up again?
I was actually in a really bad shape in my life at this time. It was rough for me. I recall just being home and producing everyday. Working on my craft and confidence.

What makes you different from other artists?
I would say my sincerity, passion, hunger, and simple talent for understanding music in a different way.

Who is your dream collab? Dead or alive.
Eminem, Jay-Z, Drake, Kanye West, Bad Bunny, Michael Jackson, Linkin Park, definitely a couple others.

What is your biggest accomplishment musically?
Being able to produce a record and managing to get Fetty Wap & Blueface on the same record. Opposite coasts, literally opposite gangs, (blood, crip) for them to enjoy my production that much. It was a great feeling for me.

Describe your favorite and least favorite part about being a musician.
My favorite part about being a musician would probably be the fact that I never gave up. To be able to still today say, this is what I do for a living. People who grew up with me knew this was something I’ve always loved doing. Music and just simply being an entertainer. Least favorite to be honest i don’t have one.

When not making music, where can we find you?
In the kitchen learning how to throw it down!! Lol I love cooking as well.

Tell us about any upcoming releases; Titles, release dates, etc. include a pre-save link if available
So currently as we speak I am actually working on a new record. Produced by yours truly of course. I already have Swae Lee on it, working on getting vocals from French Montana right now. It’s a work in progress. Stay tuned!
