Seven years in Los Angeles gave Omari Alltimer plenty to look back on. His new EP, Screwdriver Sunset, produced by Professor Payne, is his way of making sense of that time.
When Alltimer moved to LA in October 2019, he was building an identity around the name Ois4 Omari. Somewhere along the way, that changed. Living through the highs, setbacks, relationships, and everyday experiences of those years brought him closer to the person behind the name.
“I wanted the world to know me as Ois4 Omari,” Alltimer says. “Living in LA these last 7 years allowed me to remember who I really am, Omari AllTimer.”
That realization gives Screwdriver Sunset its center. The five-track EP isn’t trying to romanticize California or turn the past into something it wasn’t. Instead, Alltimer takes the good with the difficult and lets both exist in the same space.
The production from Professor Payne matches that approach. Warm, soulful, and relaxed, it gives the project plenty of breathing room. From the reflective title track to the hazier “porcupine” and the nostalgic “pins & needles,” the music moves naturally without feeling overworked.
What makes the EP stand out is its sense of perspective. These are songs written from the other side of a long chapter, when the experiences that once felt immediate have had time to settle. There is gratitude here, but also honesty about what it took to get there.
For Alltimer, Screwdriver Sunset ultimately comes down to remembering. Not just the place, but the person he was becoming while he was there.
